The recently introduced amendments in The Code of Criminal Procedure have elicited mixed reactions. Though the Supreme Court says that these reforms would benefit the citizens greatly, the lawyer community feels otherwise.

To take this debate public, Rakshak Foundation is organizing a Seminar & Panel Discussion on :

Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Act, 2008 & Judicial Reforms

Date, Time, Venue :

Saturday, 7th March, 2009  from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Main Hall, Scope Convention Centre
Scope Complex, Lodi Road
New Delhi – 110 003

The Seminar would include lectures by legal luminaries, public views, and question & answer session.

  • Mr. Shanti Bhushan, former Law Minister
  • Justice V.S. Malimath, former Chief Justice of Karnataka & Kerala High Courts
  • Justice Shiv Narayan Dhingra, Judge – Delhi High Court
  • Prof. (Dr.) N.R. Madhava Menon, former Director, National Judicial Academy, Bhopal
  • Mr. Ashish Gupta, IPS

This Seminar and Panel Discussion will provide a stage to discuss the Amendment and Judicial reforms in general – how these changes would help build our nation better and its passive effects that may occur in future. The seminar would provide a common platform for public views, questions & answers, as well as interaction with legal luminaries and senior police officials. This unique opportunity is for the benefit of public at large and is therefore free.

The Event finds basis in the fact that ‘Law is as much for the innocent as it is for the guilty’. The recently enacted ‘Code of Criminal Procedure Amendment Act, 2008′ is a case in point. Though the enactment has come as a boon to millions of Indians who can now safeguard their liberty and dignity from those who misuse law for ulterior motives, the country has witnessed strikes and agitations by lawyers who are vehemently protesting against the various provisions of the Act. With such extreme reactions to the fore, it is time to take this debate public.
